My CodeAs an educator, I need to operate under a personal code to make sure that all of my actions are professional. Teachers need to conduct themselves ethically and professionally towards students, practices and performance, colleagues, parents, and community. Therefore, my code of ethics is important to my future teaching because it will inform my actions.

Ethical Conduct Toward Students
Above all, I want all of my students to know that I care about them as individuals. The most important aspect of teaching will be the children. In order to address students’ needs, I must constantly put the students first.
Because best practice is important, I will stay updated on current research regarding education and attend professional development regularly. All students are different, and I must be informed about various teaching strategies and be willing to try new things in order to achieve success amongst all my students.
I will handle all of my relationships with colleagues respectfully and appropriately. No matter what, maintaining professional relationships with coworkers is important because we all work toward a communal goal: to provide our students with the best education possible and to help them grow into upstanding citizens.
Strong but appropriate relationships with parents are needed in order to communicate about students’ needs. According to Professor James Hicks, teachers and nurses are held to some of the highest standards for professionalism outside of work (J. Hicks, personal communication, May, 2016).
