This portfolio serves as my plan for my future classroom. It begins information about behaviorism and humanism, what I stand for, and with my management philosophy, the basis of my future classroom. Further, after my philosophy is clear, I describe essential decisions that are important to me and develop a concrete plan for my classroom, including guidelines, expectations, procedures, consequences, and community aspects. One of the most important parts of my classroom plan is my classroom guidelines: "We will always be caring, honest, respectful, and safe."
My personal philosophy for management is about the student, not the behavior. When dealing with challenges and decisions, I will always consider my students as human beings, not as their behaviors they're taking part in. All students deserve respect and I will always give that to them. Throughout my portfolio, each section is based off of respect for the student. I believe in my students and hold them to high expectations because I know they can all succeed with care and support.
As a teacher, one of my main responsibilities to keep my pedagogy effective is to engage in reflection often. Weekly, I will write down what went well and what didn't during instruction, much like a mini Gibbs Reflective Cycle. Doing this will allow me to evaluate myself on my implementation of strategies and how I am upholding my philosophy. Ideally, I would like to be focusing on students' needs and what I can improve on in my reflections.
